Tony Harding helps homeowners understand what their garden needs before they spend money on plants, landscaping or maintenance that may not solve the real problem. His advice combines plant knowledge, design judgement and years of direct experience with private gardens, nurseries and practical horticulture.

Tony’s background began in a family horticultural and landscaping business. Published Garden Adviser material records his early work as a plant grower and retailer with WD & B Harding & Son from 1980 to 1995, followed by many years running Four Winds Nursery in Sharnford, Leicestershire. That nursery background is central to the way Tony advises today: he looks at the site, the soil, the aspect, the long-term maintenance and the planting choices together.

RHS Gold Award-winning garden design experience

In 2014, a garden design collaboration involving Tony Harding and Seasoned Garden Designs received an RHS Gold Medal at BBC Gardeners’ World Live. The garden, inspired by First World War poetry and the poem Matthew Copse by John William Streets, showed how thoughtful planting and design can create a space with atmosphere, meaning and long-term emotional value.

That level of design thinking now supports Tony’s garden consultations, garden mentoring and project guidance. He is not only looking for quick visual improvements. He helps clients understand how a garden should develop, what is worth keeping, where structure is missing and which decisions need to be made before major work begins.

Qualified, experienced and clear with advice

Tony’s published background includes City & Guilds training in Landscape Practices, an RHS qualification and Level 3 study in Horticulture and Garden Design. Just as importantly, his work has always involved explaining gardens to people in practical language.

From nursery owner to Garden Adviser

Garden Adviser was created in 2021 to focus Tony’s experience into a clearer advisory service. Instead of presenting garden help as one-size-fits-all maintenance or a full design package, the service starts with the client’s uncertainty: the neglected border, the confusing new-build plot, the garden inherited with a new home, or the project that needs expert judgement before money is committed.

This makes Tony’s work especially useful for people who want to learn, make informed decisions and feel more confident in their own garden.
